A few quotations about a long marriage:
Our wedding was many years ago. The celebration continues to this day. ~Gene Perret Love seems the swiftest but it is the slowest of all growths. No man or woman really knows what perfect love is until they have been married a quarter of a century. ~Mark Twain It's easy to understand love at first sight, but how do we explain love after two people have been looking at each other for years? ~Unknown Maybe not the most noble of reasons for a long marriage: There is so little difference between husbands you might as well keep the first. ~Adela Rogers St. Johns The last one: Ogden Nash’s thoughts for the secret to a long marriage : To keep your marriage brimming, With love in the loving cup, Whenever you're wrong, admit it; Whenever you're right, shut up.

5/19/2014 Marriage: A Cord of Three Strands ~ Forgiveness ~ Eph. 4:29-32 ~ Pastor Carl CrouseRead NowForgiveness is important in all relationships. In marriage, I believe forgiveness is more important to consider than love. Do I really need to tell a couple they need to love each other? Forgiveness may not seem romantic, but according to this scripture, forgiveness is absolutely foundational for a strong and healthy relationship. Ruth Graham said, “A good marriage is the union of two forgivers.”
Strong and healthy marriages are foundational to a healthy society. We need strong marriages based on those crazy and amazing vows, intertwined with God to make great marriages. This scripture begins by painting an ideal world: “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths…” RIGHT! Don’t ever be negative, don’t ever say anything discouraging, and don’t ever be critical… Of course you should never criticize your husband/wife ~ any relationship, but call it a bad day, call it pessimistic by nature, we say things, we think things…What I like about this scripture is that it paints a picture that to which we should strive to become, but then it speaks to real life ~ The ideal is to build each other up, but then it says the answer is to forgive when less than the ideal is achieved. We are to lift one another up in our marriages ~~ my goal is to be my wife’s biggest fan (thankfully I have it easy) ~~ but we fall short. God has provided a refresh button for our marriages: it’s called forgiveness. ![]() A boy sat through a Sunday School class and learned about Jesus attending a wedding and miraculously turned the water into wine. "And what did you learn from the story?" his father later asked? The boy thought for a moment and answered, "If you’re having a wedding, make sure Jesus is there!" Amen! lets extend it to the marriage as well ~ make sure Jesus is there! Ecc. 4:9-12 is not only about marriage, but it sure fits a marriage ~ two are better than one… ending with this wonderful wisdom saying: “A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.” Two, two, two, two…then suddenly three. The 3rd strand is Jesus Christ interwoven into the marriage. 5/5/2014 Marriage: A Cord of Three Strands ~Those Crazy and Amazing Vows ~ Pastor Carl CrouseRead Now![]() All relationships depend on the commitments we make to each other and how well we keep those promises! The reason I chose the scripture from Ruth is because of the amazing example of the conviction and deliberate intention of Ruth as she faces something new…. The commitment, the determination, the specifics of what she intends. Today we begin a month long series on marriage. Not everyone is called to be married: Jesus was not married, Paul was not married, they had a gift… I say: you can live a full life without ever going to Disneyland, a full life without owning a computer, a full life with an X-Box, (and at least for some people), you can live a full life without getting married. Most people do get married at some point… Today we’ll consider those Crazy and Amazing vows. |
