Chad Hammond, Senior Pastor

I came to trust in Jesus for my salvation at the age of 6 at the direction of my mother June Hammond. After coming home from Sunday School one Sunday I started asking my mom questions about the lesson, which was the story of the rescue of the Israelites from Egypt. My mom explained that God sent Jesus to rescue me from my sin and provide forgiveness through his death and resurrection. I prayed with her and accepted Christ by my parent's bed that night. While in high school I saw God use me in the lives of many of my friends. It was during this time that I felt God's call to ministry.
Earlier in life, I spent significant time working and living in both Germany and Israel. This helped me learn how to work and minister to people from different cultures and backgrounds.
I have had several wonderful experiences that have helped prepare me for ministry. I taught Sunday School at Bethany Community Church in Seattle for several years. In those years I also worked as a Security Officer at Seattle Children's Hospital. This experience allowed me to be with families experiencing significant trauma and loss and increased my ability to care for those in crisis. Through this job, I also gained significant knowledge of the medical system enabling me to better advocate for people in the church who are struggling with physical or mental illness."

Carl Crouse, Associate Pastor

I love my new role in the church as the Associate Pastor. I say YES to requests from Pastor Chad as much as I can, but since I am a volunteer, I have the freedom to work out my own schedule and responsibilities. I lead a team of people within the church that focuses on caring for the congregation. I lead a weekly Bible Study. I am available for pastoral counseling. I spend considerable time in the community with the people. I help in The Clothesline, our free clothing back. I love people and do my best to serve them.
I became a Christian when I was 3-4 years old. I remember inviting the Lord into my heart and pledging to serve Him my whole life. As I grew, there were crazy decisions I made, yet I knew in my heart I belonged to Him, and He loved me even if, at times, outwardly, it would be hard to tell I was a Christian. After I married Sally, together we made the decision for me to go into Pastoral Ministry. There is no greater satisfaction than to follow the Lord Jesus Christ.
Sally and I have been married 3for 9 years. We have three grown children and three grandchildren. We are blessed beyond anything we deserve. Beyond church and Sumas community activities, I enjoy photography and working with family and community photographs. I recently finished my first book: "The Waters Are Rising: Stories of Inspiration and Hope from the Sumas, Washington Flood of November 2021." I am humbled by how well the book is being received in the community. I have several more books planned.
Our role in the community is to love the people. The obvious needs are to help people in the continuing recovery efforts from the Sumas flood a year ago. We find ways to go into the community, but at the same time, we do our best to be a safe community where people can find rest and see God at work among us.
I grew up in the Church and the Sumas community. My life has been a full circle with the church. After High School, I went to the University of Washington, where I met Sally. We eventually moved to Pasadena, CA, to go to Seminary. My first church was in San Francisco. Then we moved back to Whatcom County, where I served a church in Nooksack. Eventually, I was asked to serve as a Pastor in Sumas. I stepped down as lead pastor in 2021 and became the volunteer associate pastor.

Jim Glass, Head Elder

My role as Head Elder is to provide guidance and support for the Pastoral staff and the congregation. I lead a Bible Study in our home and chair the Church Board, which conducts the official business of the church.
I accepted Jesus as my Savior at twelve in the Nooksack A.C. Church. At that young age, I didn't really know what that meant, but as I have aged and matured in my faith, being a follower of Jesus has become very special.
My wife Annie and I have two adult boys, Jamie and Ian. Ian is married to a wonderful young woman, Rachel, and they have a two-and-a-half-year-old boy named Parker. I'm not biased, but he is the cutest little boy in the world. I try to spend as much time as possible with him. I still live on the family farm that has been in my family for ninety-five years. Since retiring from my job at the City of Everson, I am not a gentleman farmer. I raise beef cattle and grow a large vegetable garden. Upkeep of house and land keeps me busy.
The needs of our community are varied. Poverty is very real in our time. Drug addiction is tearing the world apart. So much of Sumas was destroyed in the 2021 floods. By helping with physical, emotional, and Spiritual needs, we can be a light to our community. Our Church is always open to other groups from the area needing a place to get together for a meeting, etc. We need to just be available to whoever may need us.
My family and I started attending SACC in the mid-1990s after some upheaval in our former church. We found SACC to be loving and accepting of us. Over the years, we have all found a way to serve this body of believers. SACC is really a home away from home.

What We Believe:
- We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God. (2 Peter 1:19; 2 Tim. 3:16-17; Psalm 19:7)
- We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit (Matt. 28:19; Luke 3:22; 2 Cor. 13:14)
- We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory. (1 John 5:20; Matt. 1:23; Heb. 4:15; Matt. 19:26; 1 Cor. 15:3-4, 13, 16; Mark 8:31; Titus 2:13)
- We believe that for the salvation of lost and sinful people, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential. (John 3:3-5; Titus 3:5; Eph. 2:1-5)
- We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life. (John 14:17; 1 Cor. 6:19-20)
- We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation. (Dan. 12:2; John 5:28-29; Rev. 20:12-13)
- We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ. (Rom. 15:5-6; Phil. 1:27; 1 Cor. 12:12-13)
